Infant Hat with a Solution to the Dreaded "Spiral Seam"

This is a pattern for an infant hat. The hat measures approximately 14.5 inches in circumference. When working in joined rounds, you may have a problem with a visible spiral seam. The embellishment on this hat disguises it nicely!

I used worsted weight yarn and a G hook.

Work in rounds, join at the end of each round, do not turn

Rd 1 - Ch 2, 6 hdc in second chain from hook, join with sl st in first st
Rd. 2 - Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around and join (12 st)
Rd. 3 - Ch 2, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st around and join – 24 st
Rd. 4 - Ch 2, 2 hdc in next, , (hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) around and join - 36 st
Rd. 5 - Ch 2, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st) around and join – 48 st
Rd. 6 - Ch 2, hdc in next 6 st, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in next 7 st, 2 hdc in next st) around and join – 54 st.
Rd. 7 - Ch 2, hdc in each st around and join – 54 st
Rd. 8 – 11 - Repeat round 6 for 6 more rows – 54 st
Rd. 12 - Ch 1,sc in same st, sc in each st around, join – 54 st
Rd. 13 - Ch 1, sc in same st,, ch 1 and skip next st, sc in the next st, ct 1 and skip the next st, sc in next 2 st, (ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, 2 sc in next st) around, ending with ch 1 and skip st, join
Rd. 14 - Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st and in each ch 1 space around and join – 54 st.
Rd. 15 - IN FRONT LOOP ONLY - Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, 3 dc in next st, (2 dc in next 2 st, 3 dc in next st) around, join and finish off. 126 st

You will notice a spiral “seam” on the hat. Using a length of green yarn, fasten the yarn at the seam on row 12 and, working upward, chain stitch into each “space”. You can also do this by threading a yarn needle with a doubled length of yarn and stitching a chain from round 12 up to round 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Flower – with yellow, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook and join
IN FRONT LOOP ONLY -, slip st , ch 2, ( sl st in next st, ch 2) around and join. Finish off, weave in ends.
IN BACK LOOP ONLY – join white with sc, ch 2, sl st in same st, (sc, ch 2, sl st) in each st around, join
Sl st in first ch 2 space, 3 hdc, sl in next ch 2 space, 3 hdc, (sl in next ch 2 space, 3 hdc) around, join and finish off, leaving a long end for sewing.
Sew the flower to the hat at the top of the “stem”.

With green, ch 75 loosely and finish off. You will weave this chain in and out through round 15, using the ch 1 spaces. You will start weaving at the bottom of the stem and end at the bottom of the stem. I left more yarn showing on the outside of the hat than on the inside - see photo. Tie the chain into a small bow at the bottom of the stem and tack the two loops into place to make leaves.
