Long Time, No Posts

My goodness, it's been a while since I posted.  I've been down in the dumps and just recently started feeling a little better.  I blame the worst of my depression on a medication I was taking, called Topamax.  Stay away from that stuff!  A doctor put me on it to help me lose weight and instead I nearly lost my mind.  Bad medicine.  I called the doctor myself and asked to be weaned off of it because the effects were scaring me.  Glad it's all behind me. I've picked up my yarn and hook and started working on some Christmas gifts for my siblings.  I don't know if any of them follow my blog, but just in case I won't mention what it is I'm working on.  There are a couple of cute patterns I'd like to try though.  Here is one: it's a Mickey Mouse granny square.   This is a free pattern.   http://startingchain.com/mickey-mouse-granny/?utm_source=stc-stc&utm_medium=social-fb&utm_term=092515&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=mickey-mouse-granny&a

St. Patrick's Day

I'm not usually a corned beef and cabbage person.  Debating whether or not to make some for dinner. I'm having some issues with numbness in my fingers - the pinky and the ring finger.  I hope I can get to the bottom of this soon and it doesn't affect my ability to crochet.  I have to go for x-rays of my back and neck. I finished a Minnie Mouse hat for my sister to give as a gift to a friend for her granddaughter.  I have to make a Mickey Mouse hat for the same sister for her friend's baby grandson.  I hope to start AND finish it today. I'll follow up with photos when I have it done.

Some Hats I've Made

I have been getting more and more crocheting done.  I finished the blanket I was making for Nathan, and finished two hats.  One is a slouchy type beanie and one has a pink heart on a gray hat for Valentine's Day.  I'm not really a hat person.  None look good on me, but the blue hat I put to good use yesterday.  Man, was it cold!  I really hate winter and look forward to the spring.  I wish I could retire to a warm climate.  Not Florida, necessarily.  Just something warmer than here.  I loved the Carolinas when I visited there a few years ago.  Either one would work for me.  But then I'd be leaving behind my grandkids, who I love so much! Anyway, here are pictures of the finished items.  The hat with the heart has a pom pom added.  I don't have a photo of the blue hat yet, but I'll update with a photo of that one later.  My next project is a headband/ear warmer for myself.  The gray hat may find a home with my niece.

Anyone Else Feel Like This?

This is sooooooo me!  I want one!  Check this out on Teespring, if you are interested.  I'm not making money on this - just thought it was cute and would pass it on.  http://teespring.com/crochetcoffeenaps?pr=frship#pid=212&cid=5823&sid=front

Snowstorm Fizzled

Well, another storm so badly forecast.  New Jersey declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm and apparently, they got as much snow as we did, which is about 3-4 inches on the ground.  Sorry for the people up north who did get hit hard. According to my brother (who is a 911 supervisor in Pennsylvania),  the median salary in Philadelphia for meteorologists in over $98,000 and the median salary for 911 dispatchers is $43,000.  Guess which one has to be 100% right 100% of the time.  Doesn't seem fair, does it. My grandsons were here to visit.  Nathan, 3 1/2 months old, is the sweetest baby.  His big brother is also the sweetest boy.  Justin was sledding down the hill out back.  He was sooooo cold when he came in - his cheeks were rosy red and his pants were wet from the snow.  He's hanging out here warming up while his clothes dry and his Pop-pop will take him home in a bit. Making homemade chicken soup for dinner.  Can't wait until it's done.

January Snowstorm Approaching

A big storm heading for the I-95 corridor (where we live) is supposed to hit us this evening, lasting about 24 hours.  The earlier predictions of snowfall was 14-24 inches of snow, but now has been recalculated for 12-16.  Still nothing to sneeze at.  One storm a year like this is enough for me.  You may or may not know that I have bipolar disorder.  People may think "Oh, what is she telling people that for?  I wouldn't share something like that!"  But it's not something to be ashamed of.  It's a chemical imbalance in my brain.  I share because people have to know that there is no shame in having a condition like this.  It's no different than having some physical ailment.  Maybe if more people shared info like this, more people would see themselves in this light and seek medical help. I've been going through a rough time, trying to find the right adjustment to my medications to balance my life.  I have bipolar II which means that most of the time, when
